In this CPTV interview ahead of the MSP Summit, Ibex Staffing Solutions CEO Alex Joy discusses the importance of controlling labor costs while finding good employees.

Ibex Staffing Solutions specializes in identifying the best offshore tech talent for MSPs and large IT and software development teams. The goal is to help U.S. companies scale affordably, while expanding support hours and profitability.

“Our focus is exclusively on helping MSPs get the talent that they need at affordable rates to be able to scale their businesses,” Joy said. “Labor is your biggest cost in a service company, and so figuring out ways to drive that cost down without sacrificing the product -- which is of course your service -- is the most important thing you can do.”

Joy said MSPs must keep control over employees delivering services but should “work as hard as you can to control that cost, because ultimately, that's what's going to make the difference between 20% EBITDA or 25% EBITDA or greater.”

Joy learned a lot about staffing MSPs as CEO of Network Coverage, an MSP 501 company that he helped scale to more than $75M in revenue and 350 employees before starting Ibex in 2025. Close to 100 of Network Coverage’s employees were offshore.

“I saw that there was an opportunity in the market to deliver a better, more robust screening process to tailor the talent to what MSPs need,” Joy said.

“I think way too often MSPs are focused on bringing in the next customer and how they can fill top of funnel and continue to grow, and that's super important. But I think you can make the most hay in your MSP by paying attention to your customers and listening to them and being in front of them to constantly be looking to expand your services and what you're offering to them horizontally rather than just driving your price up vertically.”
