Syncro Expands XMM Stack with Cloud Backup for Microsoft

Syncro is adding backup and recovery to its integrated IT management stack with Cloud Backup, launched today at the MSP Summit in Orlando, Fla.

Cloud Backup is integrated into Syncro’s extended monitoring and management (XMM) stack and protects Microsoft 365 and Entra ID. Cloud Backup costs $1.90 per user per month.

Syncro CEO Michael George said the vendor developed Cloud Backup after hearing from MSPs and internal IT customers that good cloud backup for Microsoft was lacking. Cloud Backup stores backed up data in Azure.

“It was in direct response to a lot of people who said that a lot of the current backup products are much more server and device-based,” George said. “So this is a from-the-ground-up cloud backup product.”

Syncro CMO Paul Cataldo called Cloud Backup “a logical next step for us because we're really embedded in the Microsoft ecosystem for MSPs. We're already helping with security baselines, already helping you on-board or off-board users. So now let's help with our integrated platform with backup, multi-tenant capability, all in one solution. We don't think MSPs need more tools. They need to simplify their operations, and they need it to be easier and faster.”

George said the closest competitor to Syncro’s Cloud Backup is NinjaOne’s Dropsuite SaaS backup. But while Dropsuite protects 365, Google Workspaces and other cloud apps, Syncro is sticking with protecting only data stored in Microsoft apps and clouds.

“Our plan is to really continue to double down on Microsoft,” George said. “There's plenty of Google productivity tools and everything else out there. They have their own identity solution, but we have not decided to back up other things.”

Canalys chief analyst Jay McBain said Entra ID is an important part of Syncro’s backup tool. Entra ID allows organizations to enforce policies and secure access from cloud services to on-premises resources.

“Entra ID is the digital backbone of your business identity and if it’s compromised in a cyberattack, your entire organization is at risk,” McBain said. “That’s why securing, backing up and ensuring rapid recovery of Entra ID isn’t optional; it’s one of the most critical steps any company can take to recover from a breach. By embedding Microsoft 365 and Entra ID backup into its platform, Syncro enables MSPs to strengthen compliance and deliver rapid recovery to ensure necessary business continuity.”

Janice Mahlmann, CEO of New Jersey-based security and DR services provider August eTech, said Syncro Cloud Backup will enable the provider to protect customers quickly.

“By unifying backup with the RMM and PSA capabilities of Syncro’s XMM platform, it helps us operate more securely and efficiently,” she said. “The ability to protect a new client in minutes, with everything handled automatically, sets a strong foundation for a secure and resilient environment for our customers.”

Syncro Cloud Backup lets MSPs configure and restore backups for Entra ID infrastructure such as users, groups, roles and policies as well as Microsoft 365 services, including Exchange, SharePoint, OneDrive and Teams. It allows granular rapid restores of a single email or file, or an organization’s entire Entra ID configuration.

Cloud Backup is in early access, with general availability expected Oct. 1.
