During Channel Partners Conference & Expo in March, John “Coach K” Klymshyn provided two hours of sales workshops packed with tips to help any type of business. The first session covered managing a sales team and the second focused on hiring the best salespeople.
As a follow up, Coach K recorded two short videos to review those sessions. This six-minute video looks at how to hire the best sales team possible. You can see his first video reviewing managing your current team here.
In this video, Klymshyn said his overarching principle is “Vision proceeds everything.” He maintains that vision is what makes effective recruiters. “We’re not looking for people that want jobs,” he said. “We’re looking for people interested in filling roles and building careers.”
He adds that two things you should look for in a salesperson is insatiable curiosity and discipline. He suggests using the interview process to find if a candidate owns these traits. To help judge a candidate’s discipline during interviews, he asked if they’ve been involved in activities that require discipline – for example, have they been in the military, played a musical instrument or competed in a challenging individual sport? “What I’m interested is who they are,” he said.
Coach K also includes helpful interview questions, such as “What are you reading?,” “What’s the toughest thing you’ve ever done?” and “What did you learn about yourself from that?”
“I’m handing them a canvas and some paint and a brush. Tell me a story, show me a picture,” Klymshyn said.
